Yep, it is here. I wanted to get one public beta release with the server before 1.0. It is missing only 2 features before 1.0, which will be coming very soon. Remember to read the manual which is now under the Docs section of the website and hence no longer included in the zip. Send bug reports or questions to my email.

Serial Port Plug-in 1.1.0 Released

New stable version of the Serial Port Plug-in released. Many new features including multiple serial ports at once, improved mac support, new manual (almost done). This version is in many ways incompatible with 1.0.5. Please check the new manual before implementing. A link is on the new Docs page above.

Serial Port 1.1.0beta2

Serial Port Plug-in Mac Unresolved Issue

I have been notified that there is an unresolved issue with the Serial Port plug-in's Mac OS X support. The workaround I have given users has not worked for everyone. I am temporarily removing Mac support from the plug-in (it will remain implemented and included, but will be unofficial for now) and am offering a refund to customers affected, who do not wish to continue usage. Mac support will be re-added when this is officially fixed. Feedback on this issue is welcome and appreciated. Contact me if you wish to receive the refund. This will not affect any solutions you have built but may deactivate your ability to develop using the product once the refund has been processed.

Finance Plug-in and Serial Port Plug-in Updates Coming This Month

As you may have guessed I have been busy, but I have some good news! The Finance Plug-in Server will be released within this coming week, as well as the Serial Port Plug-in update 1.1.0. Stay tuned for more updates as usual.

Serial Port Plug-in 1.1.0 Beta News

The Serial Port Plug-in 1.1.0 is currently in public beta. It supports multiple serial ports at once, improved handling of timeouts, 2x speed increase out of the box, and many more features. If any users would like to try it out, send me an e-mail and I'll send you a copy. If you have a license, let me know and I'll send you a full version. It will be released soon and will be a free update to existing users as always.

Serial Port Plug-in 1.0.5 Released

Just pushed a new patch for the Serial Port Plug-in to address the 1.0.4 bug. All users using 1.0.4 should upgrade as soon as possible to avoid deployment errors.

A client of mine discovered an error while testing the newly released 1.0.4. I have sent out a patch to private testers. If anyone would like to temporarily downgrade or is running into any problems deploying, let me know so I can send you a released candidate of 1.0.5. I plan to have the fix out either today or tomorrow.

I am currently finishing up the next serial port update, and it is planned to be released by the end of the week. I apologize for not being able to get this out sooner but I have been very busy. I was also just made aware of the corrupted PDF manual included in the installer. You may download the manual here. This will be fixed in the next release.

More great stuff is in store for the Finance Plug-in folks so stay tuned for another announcement next week.

New Plug-in Updates in the Works

Thanks to everyone currently testing out the Finance Plug-in Beta. Your feedback and bug reports have been helpful and are still very appreciated. I will be pushing a new Serial Port Plug-in update soon to address that annoying openPort() bug happening on 64-bit systems. I will be modifying the RXTX library itself and will release the source changes under the GNU GPL. In the meantime, there are several workarounds that I can explain in detail to anyone who is experiencing this problem, just send me an email.

Quickbooks and Servoy: Now Possible with the Finance Plug-in

The Finance Plug-in (or as we have previously called it, the "Quickbooks" Plug-in) is in a functional state and is nearing Public Beta. The Finance Plug-in will not require your end users to buy any additional runtime or integrator software. It will either be licensed on a per server basis or something similar to the Serial Port Plug-in licensing. Essentially, it is meant to be cheaper than all other current options.

It will also be possible to purchase the plug-in during the beta, and of course, receive free future updates.

Quickbooks Plug-in: Remote Connection

The below diagram illustrates the remote connection feature of our upcoming Quickbooks plug-in for Servoy.

As you can see from the image, our plug-in allows for multiple OS-independent connections simultaneously, interfacing with the same Quickbooks database. The connections are secured by your own SSL certificates, and securely filtered by server-defined access roles on the server side, giving the developer full control over how they wish their clients to be able to interact with the database.

This is just one of many features of the upcoming Quickbooks plug-in. More information and features will be announced soon.

Our next plug-in to be released will be a Quickbooks plug-in for Servoy. The goal of this plug-in is to provide developers a more direct interface between Servoy and Quickbooks, without requiring their clients to purchase third-party "integrator" runtime software. This should drastically cut down on the costs of deployment.

We also plan to release our own "Quickbooks4Java" Integration Library for Java developers, separate from (and not required by) the plug-in.

I am finishing up the next Serial Port Plug-in update, 1.0.2, will be released sometime within the next week addressing issues with the 64-bit JRE including some other enhancements. Update will be free to existing users as always in the download area.

I am currently working on a new Servoy plug-in that some people have been asking for, and will release details soon.

Also, I've set up a new blog at prolificaxis.net. This will be my place to give more frequent news about new projects I am involved with.

Installing Serial Port Plug-in on Vista or 7

A quick notice for Windows Vista/7 users:

Since the Serial Port Plug-in installer is a Java program file, you may need to disable User Account Control (UAC) when running the installer. This is only required if you have Servoy installed in a public directory like Program Files, and not a user directory. After the plug-in is installed, you may re-enable it.

If you experience any trouble doing this, we will gladly provide help. We're just an e-mail away!
